POSITION OVERVIEW

The Crop Production Specialist – Fertile, MN is a hands-on farming role responsible for direct management of seed crop production. The position will work with the team on on-farm operations, from field preparation to planting, crop management, harvest, etc. The ideal candidate is an experienced farm operator with a background in crop production, equipment operation, and agronomy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Field Operations: Perform all aspects of seed crop farming, including burning, field prep, planting, fertilization, irrigation, pest and weed control, and harvesting.
  • Equipment Operation & Maintenance: Operate and maintain tractors, planters, sprayers, and other farm machinery to ensure efficient crop production.
  • Soil & Crop Management: Implement best practices for soil health, fertility management, and disease control to maximize seed quality and yields.
  • Harvest Coordination: Work with team to manage timing and logistics of seed crop harvest, ensuring proper handling, drying, and storage.
  • On-Farm Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve crop issues such as nutrient deficiencies, pest infestations, and equipment malfunctions.
  • Data & Record Keeping: Track field activities, input applications, and yield data to improve future production decisions.
  • Regulatory & Safety Compliance: Ensure all farming activities meet industry regulations and safety standards.

Special Requirements

  • 3+ years of hands-on farming experience, preferably in seed production or row crops.
  • Strong understanding of agronomy, soil science, and crop management practices.
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining farm equipment, including tractors, planters, and sprayers.
  • Ability to work long hours in the field, including peak seasons.
  • Basic mechanical skills for troubleshooting and equipment maintenance.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
  • Valid driver’s license (CDL or pesticide applicator license is a plus).
